Academy of International Languages      Nothing Less Than Success! Students who enroll in West Mecklenburg’s Academy of International Languages have the unique opportunity to become fluent in a second language, while still mastering their other coursework. West Mecklenburg High School’s Academy of International Languages is committed to producing bilingual students with the knowledge needed to be active participants in today’s global community. The Academy offers students the opportunity to complete advanced coursework in Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Latin regardless of prior language experience. Students choose the course sequence that best addresses their needs. The Immersion Sequence is for students who have studied a foreign language since kindergarten. The Late Immersion Sequence is for students who began as a foreign language student in 6th grade, and the Beginners Sequence is for those who are just beginning their foreign language studies. Students enrolled in the Academy take one to two foreign language courses each year for a total of up to seven courses. College credits may be earned through the AP Language and AP Literature courses. Students may also choose to study two or three languages.
