Pre-Kindergarten
Pre-Kindergarten Services
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Pre-Kindergarten Program is designed to provide a child-centered, literacy focused curriculum which ensures that children are prepared for success in Kindergarten and beyond. Four year olds who have been identified through a screening and selection process participate in this full day program.
The Pre-Kindergarten program currently serves over 4,000 students in over 230 classrooms. The Bright Beginnings program, a Title One program, includes 5 pre-kindergarten centers and 14 elementary schools in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. The More at Four program includes 63 classrooms located in 31 community based high quality child care sites.
The Pre-kindergarten curriculum, Opening the World of Learning, offers academic, personal, and interpersonal experiences that are essential to school success.
Starting school is a big milestone in a child’s development. It’s important to have your child rested and ready for school every day so that he or she is prepared to learn. Making sure that your child enjoys kindergarten or pre-kindergarten can make the transition to first grade more successful too.
