What is a Literacy Facilitator?
The Elementary School Literacy Facilitator works with the principal to ensure successful and effective implementation of the current reading/writing programs by providing leadership, knowledge and support, enabling teachers to meet high expectations. The position is a resource for the K-5 language textbook series and reading/writing initiatives, which are shared with classroom teachers through collaboration, coaching, monitoring, and professional development activities.

Provides and facilitates ongoing, on site professional development to implement the NCSCOS through the CMS Comprehensive Literacy Model and other scientifically-based reading research initiative |
Holds follow-up conferences with teachers to clarify and discuss problems or questions about the correct implementation of literacy instruction. |

Facilitates the implementation of the K-3 Intensive Reading Program |
Assists administrators in assessing implementation and effectiveness of the adopted programs including the k-3 intensive reading program |
Monitors, analyzes, and manages initial and ongoing placement of students participating in the k-3 Intensive Reading Program |

Communicates effectively and establishes a collegial partnership with teachers and administrators in the school, learning community teams, and the central office literacy team |
Collects and analyzes data and assists teachers in prescribed methods of data collection |
Assists in planning and differentiating instruction according to data collected |

Coaches and supports teachers as they plan and implement best practices for reading and writing |
Models/demonstrates lessons using best practices for reading/writing
Assists teachers in correlating and integrating successful reading/writing strategies learned into all content areas |

Provides support and education to parents on effective reading/writing strategies for their children |
Attends system-wide meetings and training for literacy facilitators |
