Long Creek Elementary School is a community school located in northern Mecklenburg County. It has a rich history that dates back to 1923.
When the school was built, it housed first through eleventh grades and became an elementary school during the 1950’s. The school has grown to six buildings and two learning cottages and is located on 23 acres of land. Presently, a brand new facility is being built for 750 students and is located on our existing campus. We are excited about our new school and look forward to the official opening in August 2009.
Long Creek School’s instruction program is designed to implement and extend the North Carolina Standard Course of Study with a strong emphasis on literacy and math. Instruction is provided by a dedicated, professional staff of teachers and instructional associates who focus on meeting the individual needs of each child in language arts (reading/writing), mathematics, social studies, and science. Specialized instruction is provided by teachers in the areas of physical education, music, media, computer and art. We also have certified staff members that serve students with special needs.
Long Creek School presently serves approximately 500 pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students with a total of 23 classrooms. All classrooms have at least three networked computers. In addition, we have a Computer lab and a Research lab, which are both outfitted with computers, Smartboards and Senteo systems. The total instructional staff consists of 23 classroom teachers, 2 instructional facilitators and 11 support staff. We also have 12 instructional assistants working in the pre-kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms.
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) provides significant monetary and volunteer resources to the school. We are fortunate to have a strong, active base of parent and community volunteers. Parents are encouraged to volunteer through a variety of opportunities provided by the school itself and the PTA. Together, they offer many ways to provide valuable service to Long Creek School. Below is a list of some ways our volunteers are involved: beautification, book fair, corporate sponsor, fingerprinting, hospitality, room parents, classroom volunteers, tutoring, school spirit, and staff appreciation.
