School History

KennedyMiddle Schoolformerly known as YorkRoad School, was built in 1955.  The class of 1957 was the first graduating class, and the class of 1966 was the last class to graduate from York Road School.

 

In 1967, York Road School added “Junior High” to its name, and in 1968 the name changed completely to Robert F. Kennedy Junior High.  In 1970, Robert F. Kennedy became fully integrated.

 

The new Robert Kennedy Middle School was built in 1989, and is currently located on 4000 Gallant Lane Southwest Charlotte.

 

School Demographics

Research shows that students who attend schools with a diverse population can develop an understanding of the perspectives of children from different backgrounds and learn to function in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment.  At Kennedy Middle School we understand and celebrate this and it is reflective throughout our staff and student population.  The table below shows 55.2% African American, 6.7% White, 7.1% Asian, 26.7% Hispanic, 4.3% Multi-racial.

 

Teachers with Advanced Degrees

The table below shows 27% of teachers who hold a Master’s level degree and 73% of teachers who hold a Bachelor’s degree.

 

Teaching Experience

The table shows 62% of teachers with (0-3) years teaching experience, 23% of teachers with (4-10) years of teaching experience, and 14% of teachers with (10 or more) years of teaching experience.
