With the onset of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools' "Choice Plan" and the opening of the new SouthwestMiddle SchoolKennedy's boundaries changed dramatically. The opening of the new school was in response to the local area showing tremendous growth in both housing and business locations. Kennedy now shows a diverse population;700 students with (13%) white,(50%) Black,(06%) Asian,(27%) Hispanic,(01%)American Indians, and (03%)multi-racial students. The administration and staff at Kennedy have a vision of becoming one of the top performing middle schools in the Charlotte-MecklenburgSchool system. The school's slogan is "Unlimited Possibilities" for all students. The slogan is clear when considering the unique programs designed to address the academic, physical, and social needs of Kennedy's students. The school teaches the curriculum as mandated by the state with a focus on specific CMS expectations.
