Accelerated Reader is a reading program which supports our school’s mission of educating lifelong learners, and promoting reading as an integral part of that learning. The program provides self paced progression toward improved reading skills, and higher reading levels, strengthening academic achievement and growth. Students take an assessment test which establishes initial reading levels; then strategies and goals are developed. Students read books within their level, are requested to read a minimum of 30 minutes daily, maintain a reading log, and take a quiz on each book for comprehension, Success on these quizzes provides incentive for continued reading. The reading assessment test is repeated at intervals to demonstrate improved reading levels. Students are encouraged to read a variety of books and take as many quizzes as they wish. Teachers may require a specific number of books be read, and quizzes taken, during a grading period. Students may read books from our school library, the public library or read from a personal library, and take a quiz if our school has the quiz for that book.
