Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation's largest and most effective drop-out prevention network, helping young people to stay in school, graduate, and prepare for life. At Highland, CIS works with teachers, staff, and the community to provide support for the school in the areas of attendance, academics, behavior, health, enrichment, and parental/community involvement.
Community volunteers are the heart of the partnership between Highland and CIS. They serve as tutors/mentors, lunch buddies, participants in community service projects, camp counselors, leaders for after school clubs, and pen pals. Highland is lucky to have partnerships with:
-Covenant Presbyterian Church
-Department of Social Services

-Community School of the Arts

-Christ Episcopal Church

-Assistance League of Charlotte

-St. John's Baptist Church

-CMC Behavioral Health Services

-Wachovia Bank

-Johnson and Wales University
-Classroom Central
-YMCA of Greater Charlotte Starfish Academy
-Seigle Avenue Partners Freedom School
To volunteer for CIS, please contact the CIS Coordinator, Ron Jent' Davis at 980-343-5511.
