Appearance/Dress Code
Students at Crestdale Middle School are expected to establish a tradition of proper dress for school and school-related events. Listed below is the dress code:
1. Students are required to wear shoes at all times.
2. Students are required to wear shirts at all times.
3. Abusive, suggestive or profane language, symbols of illegal drugs, or any other words, symbols or slogans that disrupt the learning environment may not be worn on clothing or as jewelry.
4. All clothing must be worn in an appropriate and tasteful manner. For example, belts must be worn around the waist, suspenders or overalls will not be worn with the straps down: shirts must be buttoned so the chest is not exposed.
THESE ITEMS SHALL NOT BE WORN AT SCHOOL:
> Bedroom shoes and slippers
> Over sized T-shirt and pants
> Revealing clothing
> Pajamas
> Pants worn below the waist or showing clothing beneath the main outerwear.
> Shorts, skirts, dresses, (and slits in skirts or dress) above the fingertips when standing erect with shoulders relaxed. This means shorts, skirts, and dresses must be approximately/nearly knee length.
> If a skirt/dress is worn with leggings, the skirt/dress length should meet the end of the fingertips or nearly knee length.
> Shirts exposing the stomach (when standing or sitting), being excessively tight, and see through or low cut in front or the back
> Cut off shirts, midriffs, tank tops (with less than three finger width straps), sleeveless jerseys, tops with spaghetti straps, halter tops, and clothing with holes and rips above finger tip length
> Headgear (scarves, bandanas, stocking caps, hoods, hats, towels, sunglasses, doo-rags, and combs)
> Extreme hair color (red, green, etc.)
> Heelies
> Long chains and neckless
According to CMS policy, extreme styles in clothing and grooming may be detrimental to the maintenance of discipline and morale in school. The principal and her/his staff are responsible for determining and enforcing regulation governing proper dress and grooming of students. Any type of dress or grooming which is disruptive will not be permitted. If not properly dressed, students will be asked to change, wear a school shirt, call home for a change of clothing, assigned to After School Detention or subject to be sent home. The expectation for dress will be explained to students by the homeroom teachers and during the grade level assemblies. (Exceptions for religious reasons will be approved by the principal)
CONSEQUENCES:
1st Warning/Parent Contact
2nd Alternative clothing offered/Parent Contact
3rd Admin referral/Parent Contact
