Character Education Program
How do you fit Character Education into a school day that is already full? Picture Character as the plate and all of the academics are the food on it. You don't 'fit' Character Education into anything, it is the very core of our day.
In 2000 Cotswold was recognized as a National School of Character. Each month we work on a different character trait. At the end of the month, the students vote for their classmate(s) that have shown that trait the best that month. Certificates are presented and every child receives a bead for their chain that represents the trait. This year we have four character assemblies in which we gather as a school family and celebrate who we are.
Parent volunteers are invaluable to us as they come in to read books based on the trait of the month and lead class discussions.
Our annual school-wide service project, called The Character Kids' Fun Run, is held each spring.
This year, Cotswold's 11th annual Fun Run was held on Friday, April 24. Eleven members of the Cotswold Community donated hair to Locks of Love and Beautiful lengths. During our opening ceremonies, the brave students and staff members chopped their hair and held it proudly for the audience to applaud. Two of the donations came from people who became members of our community at the ceremony. An AG student and a friend of our music teacher participated. We are proud to know them!
Pictures are coming!
Our International Baccalaureate program and our Character Education program work hand in hand to guide our students as they become citizens of our world.
