Calendar of Events (updated)
The CHMS faculty and staff is busy planning new and exciting learning opportunities for over 1500 students as the 2009-2010 school year begins on Tuesday, August 25. Meeting the needs of every student continues to remain the top priority. We are proud that CHMS is a safe and nurturing learning environment where our early adolescent students are challenged daily.
A quality education includes preparing students for life. These skills include time management, character development, and learning to adapt to daily challenges. Resiliency can only be accomplished by taking risks, making mistakes, and learning from them.
The transition from elementary school to middle school can be difficult due to the level of increased responsibilities expected of students. The transition can also be difficult due to the increased amount of life challenges for this age group. We expect our parents and teachers to work as a team to support the growth of each child. Although it is hard to allow mistakes and failures to occur, rescuing students does not give them the resiliency they must learn to be successful.
Parents are encouraged to become actively involved in all aspects of our school community. Please find details regarding volunteer opportunities on the following links: PTA, Athletics, Athletic Booster, Volunteer Information, BRAVO and Fine Arts Booster.

In addition to the advanced curriculum, our staff works to support each child intellectually, socially, physically, and ethically.
Community House Middle School students met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals as required by the No Child Left Behind federal legislation. Our students made growth in all 37 sub-groups. We are so proud of our students and staff for this accomplishment! Also, Community House Middle School has been named an HONOR SCHOOL of EXCELLENCE with HIGH GROWTH! This is the biggest honor awarded by the state and one that only two other middle schools achieved. We intend to continue the tradition!
There is something for everyone in Cavalier Country. We urge our parents to get involved in your child's middle school education. Currently, there are several ways for parents and community members to get involved. The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) continues to be the leading resource for additional classroom materials as well as assisting the school administration with placing volunteers in various capacities. The PTA Membership Drive will begin as soon as school starts. Parents and students are urged to join. A small portion of your membership dues go to support the state and national associations. The National PTA is the largest advocate for children in the United States.
The PTA Annual Fund Drive has a goal of $25,000 the upcoming school year. The PTA Annual Fund helps to support additional resources and materials above and beyond the school districts yearly budget allotment to the school. The fund also supports professional development and hospitality for the faculty and staff, support with additional funding for the media center, the five computer labs and three wireless carts, campus beautification, and parent classes. Please take time to consider how your family can support The PTA Annual Fund. Information will be coming home in August.
