Initiatives

This page will keep you updated on 2009-2010 Initiatives for the Oaklawn Language Media Center.  I will give the rationale and underlying reasons  for the projects, so that you will better understand our program.  The overall reason for teaching and providing opportunities and resources is to fill apparent gaps in knowledge and/or resources for Oaklawn.   The library media center is an integral part of the curriculum -- not an add on. The library is not an appendage of babysitting services. Media Specialists teach and support the very North Carolina Standard Course of Study, some areas of which teachers say they do not have time to teach adequately.  By collaboration with teachers, the Media Specialist can provide needed support and collaborative teaching strategies to help our students meet goals.  Information skills are purposefully taught and infused to add to a meaningful and authentic learning experience.  Skill practice, scaffolding, sequential instruction and authentic assessement are all a part of the Media program as we provide flexible access to classes.
