Accuplacer - Please contact School Counseling Services for information about the Accuplacer, the
required placement test for CPCC.

Bus Information - Please call CMS Transportation 980.343.6439 to address problems or ask questions. Please be
sensitive to the following:
--You must ride your own bus, even if another one goes through your neighborhood.
--You should be at your stop at least 10 minutes ahead of time.
--You should be aware that there may be minor glitches at the beginning of the year.
--If you wish to ride another bus on an isolated day, you must submit a parent request to the Main Office at the beginning of the day for approval.
--Because of district budget constraints, your stop may not be as convenient as in years past.
Cell Phones/Ipods/Iphones - Students may not use these electrical devices from the time that they arrive
on campus until after the day ends after 2:15pm. All such items, either being used, seen or heard, from the
time that students arrive on campus until after 2:15pm, will be confiscated. Parents may retrieve after 3
school days, and students may retrieve after 5 school days. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please note that, dependent
upon when a phone, etc., is confiscated, BHS may retain possession over the weekend. CMS has ruled
that confiscation of phones, etc., for a period of time by a school is legal regardless of the owner.
Check Writing Policy - Butler High School will gladly accept your checks. In order for us to accept your check it must
be written to Butler High School for under $300 and must include the following printed information: full name, address,
phone number. New for the 2009-10 school year, is a new system-wide decision to contract with a company
called FARS to recover any checks that might be returned for insufficient funds. When you provide a check as
payment, you authorize us to use information from the check to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from
your account or to process the payment as a check transaction. You also authorize FARS to collect a fee of $25 (plus
bank fee if allowed by state law) through electronic funds transfer from your account if your payment is returned unpaid.
College Acceptances/Scholarships - Seniors should bring a copy of their college acceptance letters to
School Counseling Services. Seniors should also bring a copy of scholarships (college, special programs,
churches, community organizations, etc.) to School Counseling Services.
College Visits - College visit forms are due to the main office for approval 5 days prior to the visit.

Dropoff Information - Due to security issues, students are not allowed to be dropped off at school before 6:45am.
Allow yourself plenty of time to get to school in the mornings. Class begins prompty at 7:15am. It will take a few weeks
to establish traffic patterns.
Early Dismissal - The school does not accept phone calls for early dismissal. Please send a note with your
student on the day of the early dismissal to be turned in by 7:30am in Student Services. Parents may also come
to the office to sign out your student with proper ID. Student Services will call to verify the note. Thank you for adhering
to our no phone call dismissal policy.

Freshmen Open House Powerpoint - Spring 2009
Governor's School - is a highly selective six-week summer residential program for rising seniors who
are academically and intellectually gifted. Areas of concentration include art, choral music, dance, drama,
English, French, Spanish, instrumental music, mathematics, natural science, and social studies.
Exceptions are made to allow rising juniors to be nominated in the areas of choral music, dance or
instrumental music only. Nominated students must complete a screening process to determine
eligibility and then must be chosen by a CMS selection committee in order to attend. Contact Ellen

Locker Assignment Form
North Carolina School of Science & Mathematics - This is a residential school for academically gifted
students who particulary excel in the areas of math and science. Students who are accepted will transfer
to the school for their junior and senior years and graduate from the school. Applicants are required to take the SAT I.

Parking Permits for 2009-10 -
Juniors and seniors should bring a valid NC driver's license, vehicle registration, a copy of their
last report card showing a minimum 2.0 GPA, and the $25 fee. You must also not have any financial obligations. Cars
without stickers will be towed by towing companies and you will be responsible for towing fees.
Parent Assistant - Information Regarding Checking Grades
After the first grading period, parents will need to select the appropriate grading period to see the correct
grades. To do this, choose a course from the home screen and click "Details." Then, choose a reporting
term from the pull down menu at the top of the page and select "Display." Click Return to go back to
the main page.

Parent University Catalogues Available - Parent University, a privately funded initiative to help parents become
full partners in their children's education, will offer a variety of classes free of charge at various locations in Mecklenburg
County, such as schools, libraries and YMCA's. Parent University catalogues are available at Butler in the Main Office
and Media Center. Registration forms are available online or may be picked up in the Main Office. Parents may access
additional information on the CMS website, by calling (980) 343-0318 or by directing questions to info@cms.parentuniversity.org.
Recovery - All absences above 10 must be recovered in an after-school program that operates virtually all year. Students who do
not recover absences above 10 will receive an F for the course. We will NOT offer generic recovery days at the end of each
semester, so it is very important to complete recovery in a timely manner.

Tardy Policy - Your student will bring home a copy of the tardy policy on the first school day.
Transcripts - Whether you plan to attend a four year university, two year community college, specialty school, armed services,
or go directly in the workforce, please complete a final transcript request in School Counseling Services. If you have any
questions, see Guidance Secretary Mrs. Linda Horton. There is no charge for the final transcript.
Tutoring/Recovery
Yearbooks - Information regarding yearbooks will be arriving in the mail soon for those students
who requested it. Yearbooks may be purchased by anyone by mail or online at www.buyayearbook.com
Enter 9068250 as the school ID, then type in the pre-assigned order number from the mailer (student
information will already be entered) and click View Order.
Senior Yearbook Advertisements - Students and/or parents may be able to create ads online using the link
on the main page http://pages.cms.k12.nc.us/butler. Several template options are available. All ads are in
color for this year. Prices range from $95 to $325.
