Bailey Middle School opened for its first year in August 2006. Students come to Bailey from four different elementary schools, joining many students who are new to our area. The building has been designed with a full sized gymnasium, spacious media center and separate wings for each grade level. We offer a full music and sports program as well as many clubs and organizations. |
The school is located on Bailey Road in Cornelius, near Bailey Road Park. The Park facility includes 2 baseball/softball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and a number of soccer fields. Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and the town of Cornelius Recreation programs have entered into one of the most thorough of joint use agreements in the district. The school and town have a joint ownership agreement with the football field. The town and school district have a joint use agreement with the gymnasium and the cafetorium.
Bailey Middle School enjoys widespread support from parents and the community. The Bailey PTA is strong and contributes to the many opportunities offered students at the school. The partnerships forged by the school so far include: Davidson College, a local legal firm, many local businesses and the town of Cornelius. The Royal Shakespeare Company has visited the school to work with students and support the students' understanding of the works of Shakespeare. Davidson College students tutor and support students' learning. Parent volunteers work in the Student Store, the media center and provide a welcome desk in the front lobby. They also serve as tutors and testing proctors.

In the first year, Bailey Middle School fielded thirteen athletic teams. Student interest in the teams continues to be high and parental support is exceptional. The Golf and Girls' Soccer teams were conference champions. Other athletic teams were also very successful. Clubs and organizations at the school offer opportunities to compete academically. Ninth block classes include Math Olympiad, Science Olympiad, Battle of the Books team and others. The Bailey Battle of the Books team achieved second place in their Zone Competition.
The goal of the staff at Bailey Middle is to work together to create a community of learners. We encourage parents to stay involved as their children move into this new level of education. |
